Tips for Redesigning a Commercial Space

Are you getting ready to begin a new commercial project for a client’s office, restaurant, dining room, waiting area, or other space? If you are, you may find yourself hitting a brick wall creatively.

What you could do to make this space look differently? You could play it safe and simply paint the walls a different color, but that’s not really going to do much to dramatically change things up. If you want to really revolutionize a commercial space, here are a few tips that will help you obtain that wow factor.

Knock out some Walls

Taking out a wall or two or even just opening up the middle of a room can really change the look and feel of a commercial space. You can easily double or even triple the size, or you can connect two areas through an archway to make both feel much larger and more open.

Of course, you will want to make certain the walls you’re going to take out are not load-bearing support walls, so it’s a good idea to confer with an engineer.

Go the Opposite Way and Add Walls

On the other hand, if you have a large space that you don’t necessarily use all of, or if you want to achieve a more cozy look, you can add a wall to create an additional area. This will also open up your client’s capabilities of using the new rooms you have created for offices, etc.

Change up the Floor

Many office areas use linoleum flooring that, but there are many other commercial flooring options you can try. Tile may cost more, but it provides a more elegant look that is just as easy to clean as linoleum.

If you really want to create a warm and inviting area, go with carpet. It’s comfortable and can make the space seem much more welcoming.

Don’t Forget the Lights

Changing up the lighting of an area can make a huge difference, even though you might not think so at first. Using a lot of suspended single-bulb lights can make a space feel more modern, while using smaller lamps and multi-bulb fixtures can give the area a more homelike feel. You can fill a space with warm light to make it seem more cozy or go with cooler lighting to make a place brighter.
